Sean, Cheech, Alec and Sam are in the U.S. Foreign
Service and are currently assigned to Medan, the capital city of North
Sumatra, Indonesia. If you want to see where in the world Medan is,

Being in the foreign service has given us the opportunity to travel
and represent the U.S. in some exciting corners of the world. It is hard to
imagine a more exciting or challenging job for a young family.

History
Cheech and Sean were married on July 29, 2000. While the wedding was
relatively uneventful (except for the fact that my dress wasn't finished and
the photographer forgot her remote flash), the engagement was accompanied by
"fireworks". Sean proposed at the base of Petronas
Towers in Kuala Lumpur, at midnight on December 31, 1999 -- just as we were
rolling into the new millennium. As he began, however, the crowd went
wild, fireworks exploded, music started up, cannons fired, etc., etc. Cheech, of course, couldn't hear anything that Sean was saying and (thinking
that he was ill) kept trying to pull him up off his knee to see the
fireworks. The fact
that he was trying to slip a silver eagle-clutching-a-snake ring on my
finger didn't help
matters.
Astro, the family
dog, came along a year later in September 2001 and our
Mix Samoyed
Shepherd, our second dog joined us the following year. As you now know, Alec arrived in June
2003 followed by Sam in September
2006. What a family! (For the sake of brevity we skipped over
Iwa the fish, a couple of birds, and a jungle of house plants.)
Cheech and Sean both love diving, are adventurous travelers and love to try
new things for an adrenalin rush. Sean loves to read and Cheech loves
photography. She enjoys underwater photography tremendously.
(You can tell by looking at the
Finding Nemo section. Note how awful the pictures were in the
beginning before they gradually improved.)
Alec can not get enough
enjoys tractors, loaders, diggers, excavators and other big yellow
machines. He is also passionate (and we mean PASSIONATE) about dump
trucks, tankers and cement mixers in any form, including stickers, books,
toys, videos, shirt logos, photographs or, better yet, the real thing!!!
He often refuses to talk with strangers...unless they ask him about one of
the above pieces of equipment. We've thought about writing a new book,
"They are only strangers until they ask you about excavators."
Samantha joined our family in September 2006. Like her brother, Sam is
also a mellow baby. When we took a blood test, the doctor drew blood
without her shedding a tear. We couldn't believe that we
could be this lucky! Two totally mellow babies... (knock on wood...)

Future Plans
We plan to be in Medan until the summer of 2008. Between now and then,
we are going to make the most of everything Sumatra's mountains, jungles,
and ocean's have to offer. Drop us a line if you want to join us (and
before the guest rooms fill up).
